The team at Fire & Peace Wild Camping has recently completed an excellent and truly worthwhile First Aid Course. David Boath, from DB Training, came up to teach us all about the essentials of First Aid. Whilst we have all done some training in the past it is essential to update these skills - especially if you're in the wilderness where it can obviously take a lot longer for professional help to get to you. We covered the usual skills such as CPR, the recovery position, bandaging, and a whole host of other things. We even got to practise using the defibrillator!
David was able to add in some really useful advice regarding the outdoors - such as how to deal with hypothermia or what to do if a tree falls on you (this has never happened to us...touch wood!). It really gave us all more confidence to go out into the wilds, now that we know what to do should the circumstances arise. I really recommend everyone updates their First Aid skills regularly. I hope to never have to use them, but if I need to, I know I could help - and possibly save someone's life.
